They are most often made from solid cardboard, corrugated cardboard, textiles or hollow-core polypropylene and can be printed with any graphics and then the selected materials can be laminated. The advertisement is printed on the exterior surface of the cardboard tube (teardrop or oval cross-section).

Due to their low manufacturing costs, gate caps can even be used on a one-off basis. The content of the ad can thus be tailored very precisely to a specific event or current promotion.
