How to prepare files – prepress manual

10.07.2022

The general recommendations regarding the preparation of files for print (banners, posters, PCV and other prints for flat POS)

File format:
- TIF (with LZW compression, without layers – flattened),
- JPG (high quality),
- PDF (version 1.4 or higher – without flattening transparency).
We do not accept open files: AI, CDR, PSD, INDD, etc.

Scale:
- scale 1:1
- scale 1:10 – where any dimension of work exceeds 500 cm.

Colours:
- CMYK, without embedded colour profiles in the production file.
Print with white colour: White colour should be defined as an additional colour named WHITE with overprint turned on. Due to visibility and mapping of grey levels, it is best to give the representation of this colour as 100% of one of the basic colours (e.g. 100% cyan or 100% magenta).
Enhanced black: Please use C30/M30/Y30/K100 components for an enhanced variant of black.

Overprints:
- OVERPRINTS ARE NOT ALLOWED FOR CMYK colours
If the client includes the overprint attribute for printed elements, Bluejet is not liable for any discrepancy between printouts and source files.
Drops – mandatory for every work:
- 2.5 mm for one-sided print,
- 5 mm for two-sided print,
- 10 mm for fabrics.

Resolution:
- maximum resolution – 300 dpi.
Approximate graphic resolutions for large-format printouts (in pixels per inch) can be read from the table below:

Punching dies and additional elements:
- objects not intended for printing, e.g. punching die and creasing lines, should be defined as additional colours with overprint turned on.
- naming of these colours should be appropriate to their purpose, e.g. ‘punching die’, ‘crease’, ‘cut’, etc.
- cutting and creasing lines should be a contour, not an object; on the frame preview in the work file they should look as follows:

The position of graphics in relation to cutting/creasing:
- minimal distance of graphics (photos, text) from the cutting/creasing line is 10 mm.

Text:

- minimal size of text for banners: 10 mm in height,
- minimal size of text for posters and synthetic materials: 3 mm in height,
- minimal size of text for stands: 5 mm in height,
- minimal size of text for fabrics: 5 mm in height,

Fonts:
- all fonts should be converted to cursive,
- optionally in PDF format – embedded.

File names:
- diacritical marks, full stops and commas are excluded,
- special symbols and non-Latin characters are excluded,
- underscores ‘_’ and dashes ‘-’ are allowed.
File names should be as short as possible, but they should also be legible and should describe the contents of the file univocally. Example of file description:
